PROGRAM:

- The Second Republic: The "new woman": The whore and the whale, Luis Puenzo.
- The Civil War: The girls who never grew up. Pan's Labyrinth, Guillermo del Toro.
- The English Civil War: Living in dark times. Secrets of the heart, Montxo Armendariz.
- The illusion of freedom: the transition. The years naked, Felix Sabroso and Dunia Ayaso.
- Current issues: Mothers and daughters. Alone, by Benito Zambrano.
- Conclusion: Better alone than in bad company. Volver, Pedro Almodóvar
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course will provide an overview of women in Spain through cinema directors and directors of prestigious national and analysis from the perspective of gender, have projected images of English women some of the best films of contemporary English cinema, proposed or overcome stereotypes and latest issue modern English women.
Following a chronological approach, the course covers the progressive modernization of the concept of femininity in the English State and the peculiar evolution of feminist claims and achievements, social cultural and English women.
Separated from the rest of Europe under Franco, the English have been equated with amazing rapidity to women from other Western countries with sharper trajectory of feminism and progress on equal rights for women, which has led, paradoxically, a crisis of gender relations, which is most dramatic consequence increased violence against women within the couple.
OBJECTIVES:
- To introduce students to aspects of English history and culture, focusing on women, to have an overview of developments in the history of our country, which has been silenced or minimized the importance of women, so that is valued and taken into account by future generations.
- Unveiled, by film analysis, the prevailing stereotypes about women in English society, with the broader objective of preventing sexist attitudes and behaviors that promote gender inequalities still prevalent in our society.
- Prevention, from the critical knowledge of the above, the various forms of violence against women, the consequences are not restricted to military or sexist violence, but encompassing many other aspects such as inequality in the labor field, the lack of parity and representation on the boards and governing classes, the impossible reconciliation of motherhood and professional life, discriminatory attitudes against women in immigrant protagonists of sexual diversity, prostitution and trafficking of women, etc ...
